Updating AREC Media Stations and exporting logs and configuration
This lesson explains how to update AREC Media Station firmware, reset a station, save and switch configurations, and export service logs for technical support.

The latest firmware for AREC Media Stations (and other AREC/RADA devices) can be found on our website www.a-dena.com → “Resources” → “Firmware & Resources”. The page lists the current (e.g., LS-210, LS-310, LS-410) and previous Media Station models (e.g., LS-110, LS-200, LS-300), the latest available firmware version for them, and release notes for these firmware updates. All AREC and RADA firmware updates are provided free of charge.

You can use the station’s web page or the GUI to find out the current firmware version of a Media Station. To do that through the web page, open the “Administrator” page → “System” → “Firmware”. The station’s current firmware version is displayed under “Firmware” at the top of this page.
The other two versions that you can see on this page – BIOS and MCU – are only relevant when the core hardware components of a model undergo significant changes. When this happens, the firmware’s release notes will specify which hardware version it is applicable for.
To check the station’s firmware version via the GUI, tap the “Gear” icon on the GUI bar to open system settings and information. The station’s firmware is displayed on the first page, in the “Version” line.
Filling out the firmware download form
To download a firmware from our website, click “Download” on the “Firmware & Resources” page. Fill out the form that appears and tick the model you need a firmware update for. Please make sure to use a valid email address that you can access, since the firmware will be delivered via a download link sent to the email address you specify in the form. An email with a download link should arrive within a few minutes after submitting the form. If you do not see the email after a few minutes, double-check your spam/junk folder.
To update the firmware, simply unzip the archive that you downloaded from the link. Inside the archive, there will be an .img file (that’s the firmware). Open the “Administrator” page of your station and navigate to “System” → “Firmware”. Click “Update” and select the .img firmware file. Click “Apply” to start the update process.
After the update is successfully applied, the station will automatically reboot. Check the station’s firmware version to make sure that the firmware applied correctly.
Resetting the station to factory default settings after major updates

Certain firmware updates significantly change internal libraries of Media Stations, and, as a consequence, may require a reset to factory default settings after an update. An update requires a factory reset if it meets at least one of the following criteria:
The firmware version number of the firmware update you plan to install is different in the second version number segment. For example, the current firmware version of a station is 2.10.xx.xx, but the update is 2.11.xx.xx.
The firmware version number of this update is different anywhere when the station is on its initial generation, i.e., zero in the second version number segment. For example, the current firmware version of a station is 1.0.0.32, but the update changes it to 1.0.0.36
The firmware version release notes for this update specify that a factory reset is required.
Keep in mind that resetting a station to factory default settings removes all saved configurations and settings from it, meaning that the station will need to be reconfigured again. Some settings (network configuration, layouts, overlays, backgrounds, themes) can be saved. Recorded videos are not removed by factory reset.
To save layouts, overlays, backgrounds, and themes, navigate to the “Administrator” → “System” → “Configuration” page. Under “Export”, tick the “Theme and Layout” box and click “Export” to download a .config file. This file can be uploaded in the station after a factory reset is complete.
While it is possible to export the whole configuration file for a Media Station, it is not recommended to use this feature to carry over settings across different firmware versions. This feature exists to speed up the installation process in installations involving the same models and room layouts, as well as maintain configuration presets for modular rooms/different events. Importing a configuration file made on a different firmware may cause instability due to conflicting system references and generally the whole act of importing may be prohibited by the Media Station depending on the firmware version.
Factory reset confirmation dialogue

To reset a station to factory default settings, open the “Administrator” web page → “System” → “Configuration”. To preserve the station’s network settings, tick the “Except the network setting” box. Click “Reset” at the bottom of the page and confirm to reset the station.
Physical reset button location on the LS-210, LS-310, and LS-410

Alternatively, AREC Media Stations can be reset using physical buttons. To do that on the current AREC Media Stations, hold the reset button on the back panel of the station until the device starts to reboot.
On the TI-series models, hold the reset button for at least 15 seconds.
For LS-860/LS-860N, hold the “Record” and “Display” (loop through) buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds, then release and wait until the station’s power LED starts flashing green and red.
Saving and switching system configurations
Configuration import and export

It is possible to save the complete system configuration as a file and import it to another Media Station of the same model. Among other uses, this can help speed up the installation of multiple Media Stations of the same model and enable quick configuration changes for modular rooms and different events.
On the latest AREC Media Stations (e.g., the LS-210, LS-310, and LS-410) running firmware version 1.1.0.13 or newer, there are two features related to saving and switching configurations:
Configurations can be exported from and imported to Media Stations.
Currently active configuration can be changed from within the station.
The first feature is available to all AREC Media Stations. To export the station’s configuration, open the “Administrator” → "System" → "Configuration" page and tick “All configuration” under “Export”. Then, click “Export”. This will download the station’s configuration as a .config file. This file can be applied to another Media Station of the same model and firmware version by using “Import” on the same page.
Note that it is not recommended to use this feature to carry over settings across different firmware versions. Importing a configuration file made on a different firmware may cause instability due to conflicting system references.
Changing configuration profile within the station

The second feature was added in firmware version 1.1.0.13 and can be used through the “Administrator” → “Video” → “Recording” page. By default, AREC Media Stations use the “default” configuration profile, and all changes to any of the station’s parameters are immediately saved in this profile. Media Stations with firmware version 1.1.0.13 allow creating and maintaining new configuration profiles and switching the currently used profile.
To use this feature, start by specifying a name for a new profile under “Configuration name” and clicking “Duplicate”. This will create a duplicate of the currently used profile with the specified name. Next, select the new profile under “Configuration selection” and click “Import”. The station will reboot with the new profile. Now, any changes made on the station are saved only to this currently selected profile.
Up to 10 configurations can be saved this way. Note that you can only delete configuration files when they are not set as the device's current configuration.
Resolving issues and exporting system logs

Lastly, in case there is an issue or unexplainable behaviour in the Media Station, you should fill out the “ADENA Tech Support” form on our website, www.a-dena.com → “For Partners”. This form contains a useful FAQ that contains solutions for the most common issues or questions that you may experience.
At the end of the form, you will be asked to provide service logs from the Media Station. These can be exported from the “Administrator” → “System” → “Firmware” page, under “Service data”. Press “Export” and 3 files will be downloaded from the Media Station: .tar, .dat, and .config. We will need all 3 files to properly analyse the data.
Make sure to download all three log files (.dat, .tar, and .config)

Some browsers may require additional confirmations to download multiple files from the station. You may also be prompted to confirm if you want to keep these files. Press “Allow” and “Keep” if you encounter these or similar messages when downloading logs from the Media Station.
That concludes the lesson. You can now test your knowledge and understanding by answering the questions on the lesson's form and watching the linked videos before moving on to the next lesson.
After you submit your answers on the form, make sure to click "View Scores" to see whether you answered correctly. You will also receive an email at the address you used when starting this lesson, containing your answers and a "View Scores" link.
