Review of the Video Manager interface

This lesson covers the "Video Manager" – a built-in interface of AREC Media Stations for viewing, managing, uploading, downloading and deleting recordings and snapshots.

Review of the Video Manager interface

“Video Manager” is the primary way of managing finished recordings on your Media Station. The first tab that a user will see when logging into the “Video Manager” is the “Video” tab, so we will walk through it first.

Note that the "Video Manager" page is not accessible when the Media Station is recording.

“Video” tab

This is the tab that displays all recordings and allows users to manage them. Here is what each button and function does:

  1. List of recordings: all recordings made by the Media Station on the selected primary storage will appear here. Note that the “Video Manager” will only display videos recorded by the Media Station. Other video files present on the station's primary storage will not be displayed.

Click on a video to access its playback and managing menu. Tick a box next to the video to select it for uploading (2), downloading (3), or deleting (4). Multiple videos can be selected simultaneously.

  2. Upload: click this button to upload selected videos to the server selected under “Mode” on the “Administrator” → “Upload” → “Transfer settings” page.

  3. Download: click this button to download selected videos. All recording elements are downloaded this way: mixed video, individual video sources, dataset, and snapshots.

  4. Delete: click this button to delete selected videos. Deleted videos cannot be restored.

  5. Reupload all failed uploads: click this button to reupload all videos that failed to upload before. These are the videos with a red cross next to them.

  6. Preparing to upload: this indicates that the station is preparing to upload videos.

  7. Upload in progress: this indicates that the station is currently uploading this video.

  8. Upload complete: this indicates that the video was uploaded successfully. If an upload was not successful, there would be a red cross instead.

  9. Pages: twelve recordings are displayed per page. Use the pages to find earlier recordings.

  10. Storage status: indicates how much storage is currently used and total storage capacity.

  11. Video tab: click to open the Video tab (this page).

  12. Snapshot tab: click to open the Snapshot tab. It allows you to browse through saved snapshots.

  13. Administrator page: click to open the “Administrator” page.

  14. Online Director page: click to open the “Online Director” page.

  15. Log out: click to log out.

Managing recordings individually

To manage a recording individually, click on its thumbnail in the list of recordings.

This will open a page with a player that can be used to watch the mixed video recording and each of the individually recorded channels (if they were recorded). Click on thumbnails below the player window to change the currently played recording. While watching a recording, it is possible to control the player’s volume, speed, position on the screen, and viewing mode.

The player’s “Bookmark” menu also allows using snapshots/bookmarks for quick navigation. Bookmarks created during the recording (e.g. by using the GUI) will be displayed automatically. Bookmarks can also be added manually by clicking “+Add bookmark” in the “Bookmark” menu.

Use the fields on the right of the player to fill out or edit the video’s metadata.

In addition to recordings, it is also possible to download “Data set” and “HTML”. “Data set” is the combination of the recording metadata and bookmarks. “HTML” saves the player functionality in an offline page, allowing you to watch videos and use bookmarks as if you were playing the video back from the Media Station.

“Snapshots” tab

All snapshots/bookmarks taken on the Media Station will be displayed in separate folders here. Snapshots taken when the station was not recording will have the date the snapshots were taken as their title. Snapshots taken while the station was recording will also include the time they were taken in their title.

Same as in the “Video” tab, you can tick the boxes next to folders of snapshots and click to upload, download, or to delete them.

.

That concludes the lesson. You can now test your knowledge and understanding by answering the questions on the lesson's form and watching the linked videos before moving on to the next lesson.

After you submit your answers on the form, make sure to click "View Scores" to see whether you answered correctly. You will also receive an email at the address you used when starting this lesson, containing your answers and a "View Scores" link.
